Peripheral Vascular Intervention Experts in Opelousas
The medical professionals at Louisiana Cardiovascular & Nephrology Center of Excellence are committed to saving limbs and resolving peripheral artery disease and critical limb ischemia using minimally invasive technology.
Our peripheral vascular intervention treatments help prevent amputation and improve quality of life by restoring blood flow to the upper and lower extremities caused by restricted or blocked arteries. Our outpatient environment ensures you can comfortably and safely return home 4-6 hours following your procedure.
Peripheral Vascular Intervention Treatment
Peripheral vascular intervention treatments primarily include angioplasty and either a stent or atherectomy. Angioplasty is a procedure that increases blood flow by using a balloon to compress the plaque against the artery wall, reducing its effect on blood flow. A stent is then inserted to ensure the affected area does not restrict blood flow once the balloon is deflated. (Click here for details and an example image.)
Atherectomy removes plaque from the affected area by either breaking it up and removing it, by vaporizing plaque using a laser, or by breaking plaque into microscopic particles to be released into the bloodstream and disposed of naturally.
Louisiana Cardiovascular & Nephrology Center of Excellence is committed to bringing patients innovative treatments and technology. Each year, our medical professionals are invited to present and/or attend multiple educational conferences to learn the latest advancements in cardiovascular care.
